*=2021 State Qualifiers

Albany High Falcons

2021 Sectional place: 11th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Neel Chittur-Sr., Graham Richard-Sr., Kevin Mcleod-Sr., Benjamin Quist-Sr.. Kevin Kam-Sr., Christopher Doehla-So., Oliver Alvarez-Jr.

Key Losses:  Devin Hendricks

Team Outlook: Solid top two with seniors Neel Chittur and Graham Richard both in the mid to high 16 minute range and both league pre-season top 20 runners. But dropoff after the top two as the rest of the returning team are all over 19 minutes and need to improve if they want to move up in the league.

Averill Park Warriors

2021 Sectional place: 4th place-Class B

Projected Varsity: Colin Brunelle-Sr., Jacob Hanlan-So., Cavan Hicks-Jr., Samuel Bonesteel-Sr., Evan O'Connor-Jr., Jeremy Wing-So., Kevin Cooper-Jr.

Key Losses:  Evan Sweet

Team Outlook: Solid team returning as they only lose their fourth runner from last year. Brunelle is a solid number one, running in the low 16's last year and is top 10 preseason in the league. Hanlon should be thie second runner and was just over 17 minutes last year. Third through fifth runners were all in the mid to high 17's last year and would look to bring those times a little lower to improve the team. Good depth and looks like one of the best Averill Park teams in awhile.

Ballston Spa Scotties

2021 Sectional place: 8th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Joweph Fodera-Sr., Jacob Armer-Sr., Michael Miller-Sr., Ross Rippel-So., Lucas Weeks-So.

Key Losses:  Andrew Wade. Zachary Baskin

Team Outlook: Lose two out of their top five last year but Fodera is a good number one as he was in the mid 16 minute range last year and is a preseason league top 20 runner. Second through fifth runners were in the low to mid 18 minute range and need to move up. Need some more depth as they only return five runners from last year.

Bethlehem Eagles

2021 Sectional place: 6th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Mkey Miller-So., Patrick Murphy-Sr., Howard Vargas-Sr., Jackson Gallo-Jr., Ansen Chamberlain-Jr., Tyler Grossman-Jr., Dylan Wang-Sr., Sean Meek-Jr., Zach Dounane-Jr., Calvin Howard-8th

Key Losses: Gordon Su, Eamonn Hayes, Griffin Roeder, Bodie Rocklein, Ezra Winston, Jackson Cowin

Team Outlook: Slammed by graduation as they only return their second runner from last year, but Mikey Murphy is a solid number one for them, running in the mid 16's last year as a freshman and has a great outdoor season to finish off the year. Patrick Murphy and Howard Vargas should be their second and third runners, both were in the high 17's last year and a little more than a minute behind Murphy. Rest of their top five were in the mid 18 minute range and will need to improve. Expect a lot of moving around with their top five depending on the team's Summer work.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans

2021 Sectional place: 1st place-Class B, State Champions, 1st place NXN New York Regionals

Projected Varsity: Matthew Rounds-Sr., Matt Windecker-Jr., Keller Casey-Sr., Ben Smith-Jr., Cayden Robleno-Jr., Body Dugan-Jr., Thomas Kotkoskic-So., Nolan McFarland-Jr.

Key Losses: Peter Fulgieri, Nick Grock, Ryan Allison

Team Outlook: Lose three out of their top four from their state championship team and are still favored to win the league and possibly a sixth straight state championship? Vintage Burnt Hills. Matthew Rounds and Matt Windecker should return as a solid top two as they were both under 16 minutes last year and are preseason league top 4. Keller Casey and Ben Smith look to be their third and fourth runners and were in the mid 16's last year, with their next two in the high 16's. Will be looking to get their fifth and sixth runners down to the low to mid 16 minute range to fend off Saratoga but we're really nickpicking here.

C.B.A. Brothers

2021 Sectional place: 3rd place-Class B

Projected Varsity: Matthew Picard-Sr., Ralston Frattarola-Jr., Jack McKenna-Sr., Thaddeus Mangione-Jr., Jack Marchese-So., Michael Versaci-So., Dominic Fusco-Jr., Dominic Sementelli-Jr., Ryan Ferguson-Sr.

Key Losses:  Jack Mangione

Team Outlook: Lose their number one from last year but return everyone else. Expect a lot of moving around in their top seven as the team is very deep and close, bringing back a 27 second 1-5 compression . Senior Matthew Picard and junior Ralston Frattarola returns as their top two runners this year and were just over 17 minutes last year.  Jack McKenna, Thaddeus Mangione, and Michael Versaci were all in the mid 17's last year and look to battle each other out. Their sixth and seventh runner were both in the high 17's last year so there's a bunch of depth here. What they will want to see is how many of these runners are capable of going sub 17 minutes this year because they have no one in the league preseason top, 20 so they need some more upfront runneing from one or two runners to break up other team's top runners.

Colonie Garnet Raiders

2021 Sectional place: 10th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Austin LaFountain-So., Meke Yunga-Sr., Micah Collings-Sr., Shane LaFountain-So., Sean Obermayer-Jr., Sam Fondacaro-Jr., Eduard Horanilli-Sr.

Key Losses:  Frank Prevratil, William Petramale, Ryan Dunn, Chris Pellegrini

Team Outlook: Lost four out of five from last year's 10th place team so it's going to rebuilding time for new coach Jake Johnson. Sophomore Austin LaFountain returns with their best returning time as he was in the low 18 minute range last year. Seniors Meke Yunga and Micah Collings are the only two returning runners that were under 19 minutes last year so they will definitely need improvements from their back end if they want to move up in the league.

Columbia Blue Devils

2021 Sectional place: 4th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Carter Norton-Jr., Giovanni LaPietra-So., Nathan Fajen-Sr., Jasper Travis-So., Kevin Yang-Jr., Ryan Clarke-Sr., Pierce Dalton-So.

Key Losses:  Nathan Davis, Evan Farnan, Jacob Yannone, Riley Cairns, Christian Cirincione

Team Outlook: Hit hard by graduation, losing their top four runners from last year's 4th place sectional team. Junior Carter Norton is a good number one as he was just under 17 minutes last year and is a league preseason top 20 runner. Junior Nathan Fajen was in the mid 17's last year and the only other returning runner that was under 18 minutes. Need big back side help as their fifth and sixth returning runners were both over 20 minutes so they will need big improvements there if they want to improve in the league.

Guilderland Dutchmen

2021 Sectional place: 5th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Finn Burke-Sr., Aakash Iyer-Jr., William Smitas-So., Trevor Whitney-Jr., Joseph Kosier-8th, Aidan Thomas-Jr., Alex Blasiak-Jr.

Key Losses:  Will Cusato

Team Outlook: Return six from the top seven from last year but Rob Cusato ia a big loss. Senior Finn Burke returns as their number one runner. He was sub 16 last year and is a league preseason top 3 runner. Junior Aakash Iyer is their number two and was in the mid 16 minute range last year. There is over a minute gap to their third runner with Sophomore William Smitas in the mid 17's last year. Solid team up front but will need improve from their back end if they want to move up in the league.

Niskayuna Silver Warriors

2021 Sectional place: 2nd place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Nicholas Thomas-Sr., Ryan Hesler-Sr., Samuel Faga-Jr., Thomas Canestrari-Jr., Landon Greene-Jr., Drake Brown-Sr., Nolan McFarland-Jr.

Key Losses: Julien Franjieh, Daniel Maltesta, Avaneesh Benki

Team Outlook: Reuturn one of the best 1-2 punches in the league with Seniors Nicholas Thomas and Ryan Hesler both just over 16 minutes last year and are league preseason top 10 runners. Junior Samuel Faga should be their number three but is over a minute behind their top two in the low 17's last year. Their fourth and fifth were both in the high 17 minute range last year and will need to close the gap to their number three to improve the team. Tough to replace Julien Franjieh and Daniel Maltesta from last year but still have a very competitive team.

Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks

2021 Sectional place: 3rd place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Mason Talarico-Sr., Jacob Bernd-Jr.,Darren Pasek-So., Owen Blaisdell-So., Thomas Isenovski-Fr., Leydon Hamsworth-Sr., Hudson Shaw, Caleb Yuhasz-Sr.,Alex Dominguez, Ryan Buck

Key Losses:  Ryan Bush, Evan Barthelmas, Cole Harris

Team Outlook: Return four of their top five from last year with senior Mason Talarico stepping in as their number one runner. He was sub 16 last year and the only returning individual Class A state qualifier from last year. Junior Jacob Bernd Should be their number two runner and was in the mid 16's last year. Sophomores Darren Pasek and Owen Blaisdell should be their third and fourth runners joined with freshman Thomas Isenovski who all move up from their freshman team last year. Team has a nice mix of experience and youth that can really pay off if the younger runners can step in a compete. They all had really good track times so their is a good possibililty that they will. If they can close that gap then they will comepte real weel against Burnt Hills for the league title.

Schenectady Patriots

2021 Sectional place: 9th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Michael Daley-Jr., Stephen Butler-Jr., David Rambharose-So., Dylan Casper-Jr., Ryan Smith-Jr

Key Losses: Devin Decker, Ethan Anderson

Team Outlook: Lost two out of their top three from last year. Junior Michael Daley returns as their number one and was in the mid 17 minute range. Stephen Butler and David Rambharose should be their second and third runners as they were both in the mid to high 18 minute range last year. Only two remaining returning runners were over 22 minutes so they need big help with their depth this year if they are looking to move up in the league.

Shaker Blue Bison

2021 Sectional place: 7th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Micah Suh-Sr., Jackson Doolittle-Jr., Corey Ditzel-Sr., Nathan Fazzone-Jr., Andrew Lawler-So., Robert Delacruz-So., Dean Vitas-Sr.

Key Losses:  Dean Hood

Team Outlook: Lose their number one but return everyone else. Seniors Micah Suh and Corey Ditzel with junior Jackson Doolittle look to make up their top three as they were all in the mid to high 17 minute range last year. They are followed by three runners that were in the low 18's last year. Team has a 30 second compression but are far back in the league as their team has no one in the league preseason top 35. Will need to improve their times to challege other teams' top runners because the seven teams ahead of them in the standings have their top three ahead of Shaker's number one.

Shenendehowa Plainsmen

2021 Sectional place: 1st place-Class A, 3rd place-New York State,

Projected Varsity: Christian Fox-Sr.,Logan Doll-Sr., Jonathan Wolf-Sr., Matthew Clay-Jr., Jason Colindres-Sr., Mason Barrett-Jr., Sergio Sands-Jr., Ishan Swall-Sr.

Key Losses: Nathan Brimhall, Michael Clay, Andre Adonnono, Philip Matthews, Jack Dechiro 1,2,3,4,6,7

Team Outlook: Defending sectional champions were crushed by graduation with Seniors Christian Fox and  Logan Doll, their only returning runner fromlast year's varsity top seven. Doll is a solid number one though as he was in the low 16 minute range last year and is a league preseason top 10 runner. Senior Jonathan Wolf should be their number two and was in the low 17's last year with junior Matthew Clay and senior Jason Colindres in the mid to high 17 minute range. Next two were in the mid 18's last year, so the team will look for improvements in their fourth and fifth spots if they want to move up. Shenendehowa always has big numbers so the possibility of one or two runners making the jump into the top five would not be surprising.

Troy Flying Horses

2021 Sectional place: incomplete-Class A

Projected Varsity: Bret Burns-Sr.

Key Losses: Juse Larsen, Nathan Balough 2,3

Team Outlook: Only had three runners last year and return one. Junior Bret Burns was just over 18 minutes last year but team needs to focus on getting numbers out for the team to rebuild.

*=2021 State Qualifiers

Albany High Falcons

2021 Sectional place: 10th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Isadora Martinelli-So., Olivia Penna-Sr., Madeline Penna-So., Hannah Lamont-Sr., Ayelet Rosenblum-Jr., Anaya Zullo-Jr,, Rowan Hoehn-So.

Key Losses: Bianca Esco

Team Outlook: Return their top four from last year. Sophomore Isadora Martinelli is their top returning runner and was just under 20 minutes last year. Olivia and Madeline Penna are their second and third runners and were both in the mid 20 minute range. Rest of the team is far behind and the team will need to improve on their back end depth to move up in the league.

Averill Park Warriors

2021 Sectional place: 5th place-Class B

Projected Varsity: Logan Barsalow-Sr., Violet Dupuis--Jr., Kimberly Mazzaco-Sr., Alexa Ruppe-Fr., Paula DeAndres-Sr., Seah Kelly-Fr., Isla Multunas-Sr.

Key Losses: Cadence Carter

Team Outlook: Return top four and six out of seven from last year. Senior Logan Barsalow returns as their number one runner and was just over 19 minutes last year. Big gap after her as their next three runners are over two minutes behind in the mid 21 minute range with thier fifth and sixth runners in the mid 23's. Will have to cut the gap to Barsalow and improve on their depth for them to move up in the standings.

Ballston Spa Scotties

2021 Sectional place: 6th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Harriet Healey-Jr., Elizabeth Kruzinski-Jr., Kate Taylor-So., Lee McKinley-Sr., Ashley Beck-Sr., Kate Fletcher-So., Emily Hye-So.

Key Losses:  Nathalie Chateauneuf

Team Outlook: Only lose the second runner from last year. Healey is a solid number one runner, running in the mid 18's last year and one of the league's preseason top 10 runners. Junior Elizabeth Kruzinski and sophomore Kate Taylor were both under 20 minutes last year but their fourth and fifth runners are more than a minute behind. If their fourth and fifth can close the the gap to their top three then they can definitely move up in the league.

Bethlehem Eagles

2021 Sectional place: 2nd place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Rylee Davis-Sr., Katherine Bannigan-So., Liv Pachter-Jr., Annie Bolke-Sr., Anna Chrapowitzky-8th, Maeve Conway-Jr., Charlotte O'Meara-So

Key Losses:  Abby Nautel 7

Team Outlook: One of the top teams in the state this year, returning their top six runners from last year. Senior Rylee Davis leads the team, is one of the top five runners in the league and cracked the 18 minute barrier last year. Next three runners, Sophmore Katherine Bannigan, junior Liv Pachter, and senior Annie Bolke were all in the mid 18 minute range. Fifth runner, 8th grader Anna Chrapowitzky was in the high 18's last year. Other preseason previews have Bethlehem as one of the top four teams in the state with Saratoga and Fayetteville-Manlius and Cicero-North Syracuse from section 3, so this could be a special season this year.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans

2018 Sectional place: 1st place-Class B, 4th place New York State Meet

Projected Varsity: Mia Paolino-Jr., Addison Cyr-Fr.  Alyssa Bleyl-Sr.

Key Losses:  Jamisen Vendetti, Isabel Vogel, Mattingly O'Rourke, Marissa Carr

Team Outlook: Lose three out of their top five from last year. Junior Mia Paolino leads the team running in the mid 18 minute range last year and is a returning league preseason top 10 runner. Large gap after Paolino as freshman Addison Cyr wasin the low to  20 minute range last year, followed by two runners that were in the 21's last year. Need to see big improvements in those two areas, cutting the gap to their number one runner and more improvement from their back end of their top five. They had some good young runners in outdoor track that did not run cross country last year. If we see a couple of them in cross country then that could really be a game changer for them, bur Coach James hasn't given any indication that they are coming out.

Colonie Garnet Raiders

2021 Sectional place: 7th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Payton McGeough-Gamache-Sr., Olivia Armenia-Sr., Addy Keller-Jr., Mia McClaine, Maddie Charton-Sr., Lillian Moran-Sr., Liliana Burbige-Fr., Abi Milo, Ellie Mastaitis

Key Losses: Emma Gepfert

Team Outlook: Lose their number one but return everone else. Top two should be seniors Payton McGeough-Gamache and Olivia Armenia who were both in the mid 19 minute range last year. Junior Addy Keller and Mia McClaine, who was injured last year, should come in next with Senior Maddie Charton should be their number five and was just under 20 minutes last year. Their depth has improved iwth McClaine moving into the top five and have a tight pack with their top five,  but would like to see someone to compete up front with other team's better runners.

Columbia Blue Devils

2021 Sectional place: 9th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Shea Fajen-Jr., Sabine Yannone-Fr., Ava Weiss-Fr., Isabella Webster-Fr., Natalie Krisanda-Fr., Molly Marra-So., Amber Travis-8th

Key Losses: Kiley Matthews

Team Outlook: Return everyone but their third runner from last year. Junior Shea Fajen returns as their number one runner and was just over 19 minutes last year. Freshman Sabine Yannone should be second and was just a minute behind Fajen last year with the rest of the top five a minute behind Yannone. Young team with mostly freshmen so the abilty to greatly improve is there but they really need to cut those gaps between their top two runners and their second runner to the rest of their top five.

Guilderland Dutchmen

2021 Sectional place: 8th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Addison Vellekopp-Fr., Alexa Kosier-So., Gwen Case-Fr., Kara Whiteside-8th, Maxine Alpart-Sr., Braelyn Cornell-8th, Tara Iyer-7th, Lily Hubbard-7th, Rebecca Kleiber-Jr.

Key Losses: Elizabeth Irwin, Kate Scanlan

Team Outlook: Lose their top two runners from last year but return everyone else. Fresheman Addison Vellekoop and sophomore Alexa Kosier should take over the top two spots and were both in the low to mid 20 minutes range last year. Tight pack of four runners behind they as they were all in the mid 20 minute range last year. they return a tight 35 second 1-5 gap but they are down the list of league runners as they have no runners in the league preseason top 35, so they will need to move that pack up if they want to improve in the league because six schools in front of them have four runners in front of Kosier. Have a bunch of new runners moving up and look to slide into the team's top five. Nice mixture of veterans and youth.

Niskayuna Silver Warriors

2021 Sectional place: 5th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Mary Kate Cestrano-Jr., Sara Mongelli-Sr., Caitlyn LaFargue-Sr., Caitlynn Gibson-Jr., Hayley Elsbree-Sr.

Key Losses: Orit Shiang, Skyler Smith, Liyat Kebbede, Abigail Thomas

Team Outlook: Hit hard by graduation as they only return their top runner from their top five from last year. Junior Mary Kate Cestaro is a solid top runner as she was in the mid 18 minute range last year and is a league preseason top 10. Big gap after Cestaro as Senior Sara Mongelli is almost two minutes behind and their fourth and fifth returning runners were over 22 minutes last year. Need to see big improvements from their back end and need to close the gap to their number one to improve in the league.

Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks

2021 Sectional place: 1st place-Class A, 1st place New York State, 1st place Federation Meet

Projected Varsity: Emily Bush-Jr., Alycia Hart-Jr., Sheridan Wheeler-Sr., Anya Belisle-Jr., Mckinley Wheeler-Sr., Katie Turner-So.

Key Losses:  Mackenzie Hart, Ella Kurto, Claire Cuneo

Team Outlook: Returning state and federation champions lost two out of their top five from last year but still bring back the top team in the state and possibly the nation. Junior Emily Bush looks to be their top returning runner as she was in the mid 17's last year and finished 2nd in the state meet. Juniors Alycia Hart and Anya Besile was both also in the mid 17 minute range with Senior Sheridan Wheeler. Senior Mckinley Wheeler struggled last year and was in the mid 19's, but after a solid outdoor season where he just missed out on the Section 2 steeplechase record, she should be right up with the rest of their top four. They will want a little more depth to compete on a state and national level but they tend to reload when they need to.

Schenectady Patriots

2021 Sectional place: incomplete-Class A

Projected Varsity: Hailey Bogdanowicz-Wilson-Jr., Cara Mastan-Jr.

Key Losses:  none

Team Outlook: Return their only two runners from last year. Juniors Hailey Bogadnowicz-Wilson and Cara Mastan were both over 23 minutes last year so the team will need to focus on rebuilding the program.

Shaker Blue Bison

20121 Sectional place:4th place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Leonni Griffin-Jr., Kaleigh Higgins-Sr., Matalie Bennett-Sr., Charlotte Dunkel-So., Alyssa Kearns-Jr., Alyssa Caiano-So., Birtu Diefenderfer-Sr.

Key Losses:  Ciara Bullington 1

Team Outlook: Lose their number one from last year but return everyone else. Junior Leonni Griffin and Senior Kayleigh Higgins are a solid top two as they were both in the mid 18 minutes range last year and are league preseason top 15 runners. Senior Natalie Bennett should be their third runner and was in the low 19's last year with Sophomore Charlotte Dunkel and junior Alyssa Kearns in the mid 19's as their four and fifth runners. Should battle it out for the second and third spots with Bethlehem and Shenendehowa but will want their back end to close the gap to their top three to really challenge for that 2nd place spot behind Saratoga.

Shenendehowa Plainsmen

2021 Sectional place: 3rd place-Class A

Projected Varsity: Brenna McLaughlin-Sr., Cate Donaldson-Sr., Charlotte Gable-Sr., Kyla Klingbeil-Sr., Leyla Bhusri-Fr., Raquelle Landa-Fr.

Key Losses: Luccabella Hotaling 1

Team Outlook: Projected varsity is not going look anything like I have above. Besides losing they number one from last year, Coach Cloutier informs me that four other runners prejected to be varsity this year decided not to run this season. Unfortunately he didn't tell me which runners. There will be a bunch of inexpierence on the team but with the numbers that they have had in the past, they should still be able to have a very competitive team in the league.

Troy Flying Horses

2021 Sectional place: incomplete-Class A

Projected Varsity: Sydney Kimbal-Jr., Avery Fera-Sr., Hadeel Hamed-So., Olivia Ashline-So., Emily Meyer-So.

Key Losses: Samantha Cupp, Jysian Addison 5,6

Team Outlook: Return their top four from last year. Junior Sydney Kimbal returns as the team's number one and was in the low 21 minute range last year. Senior Avery Fera and Sophomore Hadeel Hamed in the mid 21's. They accomplished the first step last year when they were able to field a full varsity team for the first time in a few years. Now they need to start improving their times to compete better in a tough league.
