Averill Park Warriors

Last year's record: 3-8  Sectional Place:  4th place - Class A

Top Returnees: Greg Barsheid-Jr., Kyle Gutbroudt-So., Connor Dowd-Jr., Zach Wilson-Jr., Steve Roff-Jr., Drew Edmans-Jr.

Outlook: Lost defending Section 2 Class A champ, Joel Frost Tift to graduation but bring back a good young group. Barsheid and Gutbroudt should be the top runners but the rest of the team is close behind them.  Should improve in the league this year and could move into the top three in Class A, especially if the pack can move up a little bit.

Ballston Spa Scotties

Last Year's Record: 2-9  Sectional Place: 8th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Josh Flynt-Sr., David Veet-Jr., Nick O'Neil-Sr., Brendan LaFountain-Sr., Scott Molongoski-Jr., Justin Cooper-Sr., Alex Myers-Jr.

Outlook: Lost two of their top five to graduation but still brings back a good team. Flynt was under 17 minutes last year and O'Neil and Cooper are much improved. Need their fourth and fifth runners to close the gap. I they can do that then they may be able to hit .500 in the league which is a big improvement from last year's 2-9 record.

Bethlehem Eagles

Last year's record: 7-4  Sectional Place:  7th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Karl Davis-Sr., Scott Davis-Sr., Alex Sobiecki-So., Nicholas Devries-Jr., Oren Rasowsky-Jr., Dan Savage-Jr., Jesse Pulitzer-Kennedy-Jr.

Outlook:  Graduation hit them hard as three of their top five are gone. David brothers are their top two but the rest of the team is unproven and will need to improve.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans

Last year's record: 7-4 Sectional Place:  2nd place - Class A

Top Returnees:  Drew Houghtalen-Sr., Ryan Pezzulo-Sr., Zach Goodrich-Sr., Cody Buell-Sr., Matt Burton-Sr., Andrew Jess-Sr.

Outlook: One of the top teams in the league brings back five out of their top seven. Houghtalen, Pezzulo, and Burton were all under 17 minutes last year and  are a great top three and with their great depth they are one of the top teams in the league and an early favorite for the Class A title.

Colonie Garnet Raiders

Last year's record: 4-7 Sectional Place:  5th place - Class AA

Top Returnees:  Tyler Stewart-So., Matt Reilly-Jr., Joe Emory-So., Vince Ginardi-Sr., Dave Powalyk-Jr., Ryan Green-Sr., Greg Coleman-Jr., Colin Mooney-So.

Outlook: Were slammed by graduation as they lost their top four runners from last year. Returns a young but promising team. Stewart and Reilly are their top two with Ginardi not too far behind, need their fourth and fifth runners to close the gap if they want to move up in the league. Probably a year away though.

Columbia Blue Devils

Last year's record:  0-11 Sectional Place:  10th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Adam Delaney-Sr., Dan Ludwig-So., Tim Young-Sr., Cooper Mayhew-So., Dante Lepare-Sr., Ryan Johnson-Jr., Zach Bersani-Jr.

Outlook: Rough waters ahead when you're winless the previous year and lose your top two runners to graduation. Delaney is their top runner and the only runner on the team that broke 18 minutes last year. Team will need to improve but may be able to eek out a win or two.

Guilderland Dutchmen

Last year's record: 8-3 Sectional Place:  4th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Brian Rhodes-Devey-Sr., Roland Graves-Jr., Jared Moriarity-Sr., Kevin Sheehan-Jr., Justin Veldhuis-Jr., Jacob King-Jr., Dustin Campbell-Sr.

Outlook: Hit hard by graduation losing five out of their top seven but always have great depth and will be able to reload. Rhodes-Devey is the defending state and federation champ and will once again be one of the top runners in the state. Graves is a solid number two and the rest of their top five is a good pack. Need the pack to move up if the want to move up in the league and possibly get a federation bid.

Mohonasen Mighty Warriors

Last year's record:  1-10 Sectional Place:  5th place - Class A

Top Returnees: Pat Murray-Jr., Connor Daley-Sr., Pat Grasso-Jr., Randall Bobik-Sr., Lindsay Scott-Jr.

Outlook: Like Columbia, went 1-10 last year and lost their top two runners to graduation. Murray is their only returning runner that's under 18 minutes last year so the team will need to improve if they want to improve.

Niskayuna Silver Warriors

Last year's record: 6-5 Sectional Place:  6th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Kyle O'Connor-Sr., Nick Cioffi-Sr., Tim Ryan-Sr., Zak Smetana-Sr., Mike Ryan-Sr., John Reilly-Sr.,  Jeffrey Paul-Sr., Nathan Marsan-Sr., James Pagano-Jr., Kyle Johnston-Jr.

Outlook: Lost two of their top five to graduation but return an experienced senior-laden team

Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks

Last year's record:  11-0 Sectional Place:  1st place - Class AA State Champions, NTN National Champions

Top Returnees: Dimitri Goutos-So., Chris Allen-Sr., Kenneth Hammond-Jr., John Farley-Sr., Mac Tully-So.

Outlook:  Defending national champions lost four out of their top seven to graduation, then lost their top runner when Steve Murdock transferred. Still has a good top two with Goutos and Allen but need some help with their fourth and fifth runners if they want to stay competitive. Still can be a top five team though.

Shaker Blue Bison

Last year's record: 7-4  Sectional Place:  3rd place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Matt Bogdan-Sr., R.J. Sniffen-Jr., Nick Webster-Sr., Craig Weiss-So., Matt Dodge-Sr., Brian Benson-Sr., Chris Manico-Jr.

Outlook: Vary solid team that only lost the number two runner to graduation. Bogdan is one of the top runners in the league with Sniffen very close to him. Rest of the is in a tight pack. It will be tough to catch Shen and would need the pack to move up if they want to catch them.

Shenendehowa Plainsmen

Last year's record:  10-1  Sectional Place:  2nd place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Steve Murdock-Sr., Zach Predmore-Sr., Adam Quinn-Sr., Zac Suriano-Jr., Mike Danaher-So., Jamie Glover-So., Kyle Dunn-Jr., Alex Belensz-Jr.

Outlook: Had one of the top teams in the league coming back, then Zac Suriano dropped soccer for cross country, then Mike Danaher transfers from C.B.A., and finally, one of the top runners in the state, Steve Murdock, transfers from Saratoga. Now they have one of the top teams in the state. Would like to see the gap with their fifth through seventh but they will be very tough to beat this year.

Averill Park Warriors

Last year's record:  2-9 Sectional Place:  6th place - Class A

Top Returnees: Hannah Linden-Darrow-Jr., Morgan Wheeler-So., Brittany Wensley-Sr., Sandy Levinn-Jr., Brittany Smith-Sr., Roxanne Miller-Jr., Rachel Warner-Jr.

Outlook: Lost their top runner to graduation. Linden-Darrow and Wheeler are the only two under 21 minutes but didn't run at the Fonda Invy.  Wensley was in the 21 minute range with everyone else in the 23 minute range. It will be tough to compete in the Suburban Council with those times.

Ballston Spa Scotties

Last Year's Record: 3-8  Sectional Place: 9th place - Class AA

Projected Varsity: Katie Dickman-So., Victoria Ballestero-Jr., Kristyn Galbraith-Sr., Lindsey Martin-Sr., Emily Wankera-Jr., Stephanie Stawniczy-Jr.

Outlook:  Lost their number one runner to graduation but return everyone else. Dickman was just under 21 minutes last year and Ballestero had a good spring and should move up. Rest of the team will have to move up if they want to improve in the league.

Bethlehem Eagles

Last year's record:  8-3 Sectional Place:  6th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Kristen Kenney-Jr., Kristen Peck-Jr., Grace Gallagher-Fr., Shannon McCartan-Fr., Molly McCann-Jr., Kimberly Kenney-8th, Mariel Doyle-8th, Maddie Lang-So., Krissy Conroy-Sr., Molly Hassett-So.

Outlook: Return their top four runners from last year. Kenney is one of the top runners in the league and Gallagher and McCartan are young and could be very good this year. Peck is coming back from an injury and the team will need her at full strength if they want to do well in the league this year. Also will need some depth.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans

Last year's record:  7-4 Sectional Place:  2nd place - Class A

Top Returnees: Meaghan Gregory-So., Molly Pezzulo-8th, Sam Roecker-So., Lizzy Olsen-So., Lauren Mullins-Jr., Larene Cameron-So., Martha Brown-Jr., Carolyn Herkenham-So.

Outlook: Return their top eight from last year and should be one of the top teams in the section and state. Gregory was in the mid 18 minute range last year with the next three runners in the 19's. Still behind Saratoga for the league but can definitely challenge for second. Will be in another tight race with Holy Names and Queensbury for the Class A title.

Colonie Garnet Raiders

Last year's record:  5-6  Sectional Place:  5th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Shannon Finnegan-Jr., Meghan LaPoint-Sr., Kaitlin Mock-Jr., Katelyn Choiniere-So., Jessica Sherry-So., Andrea Kean-Sr., Jessica Abrams-So., Mikala Anson

Outlook: Lost their top runner but return the next six runners and add Anson. Top five runners were all in the 20 minute range last year but most of the team had excellent spring track seasons because of the they were #9 in the northeast. I think that's a little high for them but will be one of the top teams in the league and a favoritte for a federation bid.

Columbia Blue Devils

Last year's record:  5-6  Sectional Place:  4th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: ,Brina Seguine-Sr. Ashley Ferriero-Sr.,, Allison O'Brien-Jr., Meghan Abbott-Sr., Alexandra Nichols-Jr., Leslie Aiken-Sr., Katherine Richburg-Sr.

Outlook: Lost two out of their top five to graduation but still return a good team. Seguine and Ferriero are a sold top two as both were in the 19 minute range last year. Team needs to improve their depth in the thir through fifth spots if they want to match their fourth place finish last lear at sectionals.

Guilderland Dutchmen

Last year's record: 7-4  Sectional Place:  8th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Jen Madsen-So., Emily Cure-So.,  Courtney DeLorenzo-Sr., Shannon Doherty-Jr., Lauren Aziz-Sr., Laura Doak-Sr., Chelsey Campbell-Fr.

Outlook: Return their top six runners so they have very good depth. Madsen and Cure were both in the low 20 minute range with the rest of their top five in the 21's. Need to bring those times a little to move up. Had a dual meet season last year but dropped at the end. Well see if they can keep the pace up throughout the year.

Mohonasen Mighty Warriors

Last year's record:  0-11 Sectional Place: incomplete - Class A

Top Returnees:  Melissa Sullivan-So., Valerie Dunn-Sr.

Outlook: Only had three runners last year and their number one graduated. Sullivan and Dunn were both in the 23 minute range last year. Not sure if they are complete this year but even if they are they will probably still have a tough time getting a win this year.

Niskayuna Silver Warriors

Last year's record:  1-10 Sectional Place:  7th place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Chelsea Trant-Fr., Emily McTague-Jr., Emily Hilts-Jr., Kelsey Fitzgerald-So., Allison Pfohl-Jr., Elizabeth Moran-Jr., Meg Brown-Sr.

Outlook: Lost two out of their top six from last year but look much better than last year. Trant is coming off an injury from the spring and is getting back in form and McTague is not too far behind her. The rest of the team is about two minutes back and will need to close the gap if they want to move up any further.

Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks

Last year's record:  11-0 Sectional Place:  1st place - Class AA-State and Federation Champions

Top Returnees: Hannah Davidson-Jr.., Cassie Goutos-Fr., Kaitlin O'Sullivan-Sr., Brianne Bellon-Fr., Liz Ochse-Sr., Abby Ochse-Sr., Alysha McElroy-Sr.

Outlook: Hit hard by graduation, losing four out of their top seven but Saratoga just reloads. Davidson is one of the top runners in the state and the rest of the top five returning were all under 20 minutes last year. Pre-season rankings have been doubting them but I'm not. They should be right up with Hilton for the state title and should once again challenge for the national title.

Shaker Blue Bison

Last year's record:  7-4 Sectional Place:  3rd place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Seri Gordon-Sr., Sara Ochs-Sr., Kelsey Ogden-Jr. Jessica Morelli-Sr., Maureen Hill-Jr., Casey Morelli-Sr., Natana Gordon-So.

Outlook:  lose their third and fourth runners from last year but return everyone else and always has great numbers. Gordon and Ochs are a solid top two as they were both under 20 minutes last year and the rest of their returning top five were all in the 20 minute range. Will be one of the top teams in the league but will probably want their third through fifth runners to close the gap a little.

Shenendehowa Plainsmen

Last year's record:  10-1 Sectional Place: 2nd place - Class AA

Top Returnees: Cara Jancezko-Fr., Lindsey Bonk-Jr., Tricia Wardwell-Sr., Mary Jane Anderson-Jr., Kristen Gabriele-Jr., Sammi Cocca-Jr., Christina Sloat-Sr.

Outlook: Lost three out of their top six but return some good depth. Jancezko is a top five runner in the league when she runs varsity and Bonk and Wardwell were both under 20 minutes. With Jancezko running they're one of the top teams in the league, without her they are middle of the road. The only time it really matters though is sectional time.
