1 Ichabod Crane 8-0 1 Phil Hartshorn Berlin
2 Maple Hill 7-1 2 Alex Jennings Ichabod Crane
3 Berlin 6-2 3 Dan Bulson Berlin
4 Catskill 5-3 4 Sam Streeter Chatham
5 Chatham 4-4 5 Dan Waheed Ichabod Crane
6 Greenville 0-5-3 6 Jacob Auffant Catskill
6 Hudson 0-5-3 7 Sean Secor Maple Hill
6 Cairo-Durham 0-5-3 8 Mackenzie Oglesby Maple Hill
6 Hawthorne Valley 0-5-3 9 Aaron George Ichabod Crane
10 Rich Messineo Ichabod Crane

Defending league and Class B champions, Ichabod Crane look to be the big favorite entering the season. They return four of the top ten times in the league and with their overall depth they will be very tough to beat. Maple Hill and Berlin should fight it out for second. It will be close but right now I think Maple Hill has the better depth. Catskill, with their better depth should hold off Chatham for fifth and the rest of the teams will be working on filling their teams. Individually, Phil Hartshorn of Berlin is the returning champion which gives him the slight edge but Ichabod Crane's Alex Jennings has the top returning time and Berlin team mate Dan Bulson will challenging him tooth and nail for the title.

Berlin Mountaineers

Sectional Place:  5th place - Class D

Projected Varsity: Phil Hartshorn-Sr., Dan Bulson-Sr., Sam Aguirre-Sr., Tyler Purdy-Sr., Mike Stankus-So., Eric Remington-So.

Outlook: Lose their number three runner to graduation. Have the best one-two punch in the league with Hartshorn back as defending league champ and Bulson right up with him. Rest of the team were just over twenty minutes and will need to see a significant drop from them if they want to move up in the league and sectionals.

Cairo-Durham Indians

Sectional Place:  did not run - Class C

Projected Varsity: J.Dugan, M.Feeley, R.Correra, R.Lawrence

Outlook: I'm flying blind here. They didn't run at sectionals so I only have the league championships to go by. I also don't know if anyone was a senior last year. Any way, they will need to see some big improvements and need to fill the team up if they want to move up in the league.

Catskill Cats

Sectional Place:  7th place - Class C

Projected Varsity: Jacob Auffant-Sr., Gabe Sturges-So., Vinny Baldwin-Sr., Steve Miranda-Sr., Cameron Auffant-Jr., Cory Dunn-So.

Outlook: Lost their top runner, Zack McIllhenny to graduation but Auffant should be a top ten runner in the league and Sturges put up some good times in the 3200m in track so we'll see how that translates to the fall. Baldwin was just under 20 minutes but they team will need improvements from their fourth and fifth runners as their fourth runner last year was just over 20 minutes and their fifth was in the mid 21 minute range. After those five there's a big dropoff so depth may be a problem too.

Chatham Panthers

Sectional Place:  9th place - Class C

Projected Varsity: Sam Streeter-Sr., Zach Pulver-Sr., Ryan Knightendale-So., Steven Johnson-Sr.

Outlook: Depth was a problem last year and losing three out of their top five to graduation doesn't make it any better. Streeter is one of the top runners in the league and a solid number one runner. Only three other runners return and they were all over 20 minutes last year. Will need to see a drop from those runners if they want to move up in the league.

Greenville Spartans

Sectional Place:  incomplete - Class C

Projected Varsity: E.VanWormer, D.Tucker, M.Duarini

Outlook:  I could just plug in here with what I wrote about Cairo-Durham. Only had three runners at Patroon's so they will need to fill up the lineup before worrying about league standings.

Hawthorne Valley

Sectional Place:  Did not Run

Projected Varsity: J.Palmer, M.DeGeyter, D.Oldhan, M.Moore-Bidger, C.Schuldt

Outlook: Had five at Patroon's but not sure who graduated. Even if all five return they will need to see a drop in times from everyone to improve in the league.

Hudson Bluehawks

Sectional Place: Incomplete - Class B

Projected Varsity: Jeffrey Bernhoft, Dylan Meyers-So., Michael Guarino-So.

Outlook: Lost their top runner to graduation and only return three. All three were over in the 23 minute range but they're young and should improve. Hudson cross country program is still young and they keep making steps toward improving.

Ichabod Crane Riders

 Sectional Place:  1st place - Class B

Projected Varsity: Alex Jennings-Sr., Dan Waheed-So., Aaron George-So., Rich Messineo-Sr., Kenneth Noll-Jr. Ryan Gildersleeve-So., Sean Shattenkirk-So., Kailib Failing-So., Chris Larm-Fr., Nathan George-Fr.

Outlook: Defending league and Section 2 Class B champions lose their number one and three runners from last year but had overwhelming depth and look to be the clear favorite to repeat as league and sectional champions. What the team lacks is a cleat number one runner which hurt them when they ran at states last year. If one or two runners can step up as leaders then they can see a very good improvement at the state level. Right now it looks like Jennings and Waheed are the two that can accomplish that

Maple Hill Wildcats

Sectional Place:  8th place - Class C

Projected Varsity:  Sean Secor-Jr., Mackenzie Oglesby-Jr., Scott Bureau-Sr., Pete Warner-Sr., Matt Hage-Sr., Daniel Croft-Jr.

Outlook: Return their top six runners from last year. Secor and Oglesby are a solid top two for the team and with their third through fifth runner all in the 19 minute range they look to move up in the league and in sectionals. They probably still need a decent drop in times from their third through fifth runners though to make a serious challenge.

Patroon Conference Girls

Individual Predictions

  W-L

1. Ichabod Crane 8-0 1 Kelsey Demick Berlin
2. Berlin 7-1 2 Julie Nabozny Ichabod Crane
3. Maple Hill 6-2 3 Schae Auffant Catskill
4. Chatham 5-3 4 Meghan Derby Berlin
5. Greenville 4-4 5 Taylor Willis Ichabod Crane
6. Catskill 3-4 6 Ashleigh Rokjer Berlin
7. Cairo-Durham 0-6-2 7 Allison Connor Hudson
8. Hawthorne Valley 0-6-2 8 Rachel Dellehunt Ichabod Crane
8. Hudson 0-6-2 9 Monica Varriale Ichabod Crane
10. Nancy Carver Maple Hill

Defending champ Berlin and Ichabod Crane should be in a close race for the league title this year. I give the early nod to Ichabod Crane because of their depth but  Berlin has picked up some new runners and could challenge them. Maple Hill looks to be a solid third with Chatham, Catskill and Greenville fighting it out for fourth. Individually it will a heck of a race as I see four or five runners take the title. Berlin's Kelsey Demick has the best returning time but team mate Meghan Derby, Ichabod Crane's Julie Nabozny and Taylor Willis, and Catskill's Schae Auffant are all capable of  taking the title.

Berlin Mountaineers

Sectional Place:  3rd Place - Class D

Projected Varsity: Kelsey Demick-Fr., Ashley Rokjer-So., Megan Derby-Sr., Rebecca Fischer-Sr., Ency Burhans-So., Alex Devine-Sr.

Outlook:  Defending league champions return five out their top seven and with a couple of new girls and some good runners coming up from modified they have a good shot at repeating. Demick was in the mid 20's last year and with Rokjer and and Derby in the 21 minute range they have a tough top three. Will still need their fourth and fifth runners will need to improve though if they want to stay with Ichabod Crane

Cairo-Durham Indians

Sectional Place:  Did not run - Class C

Projected Varsity: Laura Eberhard-Sr., J.Halstrom

Outlook: Only return two runners from last year do they will need to fill up their lineup. Didn't run at sectionals do I don't have much information on them.

Catskill Cats

Sectional Place:  9th place - Class C

Projected Varsity: Schae Affaunt-So., Amanda Brown-Sr., Erica Rossano-Sr., Sarah Hite-So.

Outlook: Lose their number three runner to graduation and only have four returning this year. Affaunt is one of the top runners in the league and has a good chance to take the title. Rest of the team were all over 24 minutes with their fourth runner just under 30 minutes. Times will have to improve if they want to make a jump in the standings.

Chatham Panthers

Sectional Place:  8th place - Class C

Projected Varsity: Aiko Okawa-Scannell-So., Olga Iooko-Sr., Susan Matthews-Sr., Madeline Klinger-So., Jacquline Klinger-Sr.

Outlook: Lost their top runner to graduation and with their top four in the 24-25 minute range they will need to see a big drop in times if they want to improve. Will also need to improve their depth as they only have five returning with their fifth runner just over 30 minutes.

Greenville Spartans

Sectional Place:  incomplete - Class C

Projected Varsity: Khrystyne Tschinkel-Jr., Jessica Bouillon-Sr., A.Jackson, L.Waldron, K.Marquardt, Rachel McAlloon

Outlook:  Had six runners at Patroon's but didn't run sectional so I have no grades and I don't know who graduated. Tschinkel is a good number one runner but rest of the team will have to drop their times is they want to move up in the league.

Hawthorne Valley

Sectional Place:  Did not run

Projected Varsity: none

Outlook: Had no runner at Patroon's so they will have to work on getting runners for the team

Hudson Bluehawks

Sectional Place: Incomplete - Class B

Projected Varsity: Allison Connor-Sr., Meghan Palmatier-Jr.

Outlook: Team was incomplete last year and return two. Connor is a solid runner and a top ten league runner and after some good times in track should be able to move up. Need to work on filling up the team though.

Ichabod Crane Riders

Sectional Place:  3rd place - Class B

Projected Varsity: Julie Nabozny-Sr.,Taylor Willis-Jr.,  Rachel Dellehunt-So., Monica Varriale-Jr., Emily Zeh-So., Kati Rothwein-Jr., Catherin Nadeau-Jr.

Outlook: Return their entire top seven and with state qualifiers Nabozny and Willis as their top two they have a great shot at taking the league title. their third through sixth runners were all in the 22 minute range and that depth will help but they probably would like to see them drop their times a little more. Should stay in the top three in Class B but will have a tough time topping Broadalbin-Perth or Lansingburgh.

Maple Hill Wildcats

Sectional Place:  6th Place - Class C

Projected Varsity: Tamara Lilkas-Jr., Nancy Carver-Sr., Leanda Baker-Jr., Justine Schulerud-Jr., Nicole Corbett-Jr., Candance Morgan-Sr.

Outlook: Lost defending league champion Erica Lepkowski and their number four runner to graduation but Carver and Lilkas are a good top two, both in the 22 minutes range. Baker and Schulerud were in the 24 minute range and will need to improve. Big dropoff after that and will need help at the number five position if they want to move up.
