 Individual Predictions

1 Amsterdam 7-0 1 Sam Dikeman Bishop Gibbons
2 Albany High 6-1 2 Brian Murphy LaSalle
3 C.B.A. 5-2 3 Alex Wheeler Amsterdam
4 Schenectady 4-3 4 Brian Trainor C.B.A.
5 Troy 3-4 5 Sam Broadaway Albany High
6 LaSalle 2-5 6 Pete Conboy Albany High
7 Bishop Gibbons 1-6 7 Jonathan Aziz Bishop Gibbons
8 Catholic Central 0-7 8 Sam Wells Albany High
      9 Rob Morey Amsterdam
10 Rob Sobkowich Amsterdam

Very tough to say how this league is going to shape up as most teams lost at least three or four runners from last year. Amsterdam has the most depth coming back and I give them the slight edge over Albany High. Albany has some good runners up front so it will be a tough race. C.B.A. and Schenectady could move up if their younger runners can develop quickly. Individually, Sam Dikeman of Bishop Gibbons has the best returning time and is the early favorite. C.B.A.'s Brian Trainor, Amsterdam's Alex Wheeler and Rob Morey will challenge along with Albany's Sam Broadaway and Pete Conboy.

Albany High Falcons

Last year's record: 8-0 , Sectional Finish: 10th - Class AA

Projected VarsitySam Broadaway-Sr., Sam Wells-Jr., Pete Conboy-Sr., Gregory Jung-Fr., Kordell Sutton-Sr., Kewsi Burgess--Jr., Xavier Marshall-Sr.

Outlook:  Lost three out of four to graduation, including two time league champion, Mike Sainato, Broadaway, Wells, and Sutton were all in the 18 minute range. Conboy is a new runner and ran well at the SEFCU 5K on Labor Day. If they can get a fifth runner and those four run where they are now then Albany will have a very good chance and repeating as league champs.

Amsterdam Rams

Last year's record: 6-2 , Sectional finish: 6th - Class A

Projected StartersAlex Wheeler-Jr., Rob Morey-Jr., Anthony Leonetti-Sr., Rob Sobkowich-Jr., Brian Benton-Jr., Dan Roginski-Sr., Rafael Gonzalez-Sr.

Outlook: Only return two out of their top seven last year but had better depth than the other schools in the league. Wheeler was in the 17 minute range last year and is one of the top returnees in the league and Morey ran very well in their first meet. Team will depend on how their third through fifth runners do. If they can step up then they can take the league title

Bishop Maginn Golden Griffins

Last year's record: 0-8, Sectional finish: incomplete - Class B

Projected Starters: none

Outlook:  Bishop Maginn will not have a team this year. Hopefully they will find a coach next year.

C.B.A. Brothers

Last year's record: 5-3, Sectional finish: 7th - Class A

Projected Starters: Brian Trainor-So., Nick Cerrone-So., Joe Corrigan-Jr., Matt Risler-Sr., Joe Harder-So., James Butner-Jr., Alex Vitale-Sr.

Outlook: Were returning their top six runners but unfortunately for them their top runner, Mike Danaher, transferred to Shenendehowa. Still have a good young team though as Trainor is one of the top runners in the league and Cerrone and Corrigan were both in the 19 minute range. Team will depend on how their third through fifth will do but I don't see them with the depth that Albany and Amsterdam has.

Catholic Central Crusaders

Last year's record: 0-8, Sectional finish: incomplete - Class B

Projected Starters: John Daley-Sr.

Outlook: Only have one runner this year so they'll have to try and rebuild

LaSalle Cadets

Last year's record: 7-1 Sectional finish: 11th - Class AA

Projected Starters: Brian Murphy-Sr., Nate Burke-Sr., Colin Littlefield-Sr., Ryan Long-Jr., Dennis Hurley-Fr., Jeremy Stewart-Fr., James Doran-Fr.

Outlook: Lost five out of their top seven to graduation and are in rebuilding mode. Murphy was in the mid 17's last year and should be one of the top runners in the league. Rest of the team is untested though. Some good freshmen coming up this year and how they develop during the year will determine the team's success.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights

Last year's record: 3-5, Sectional finish: 4th - Class B

Projected Starters: Sam Dikeman-Sr.. Jonathan Aziz-So., Ian Miller-Fr., Matthew Popa-Fr., Peter Tokarowski-So., Zachary Duda-So.

Outlook: The sexiest team in Section 2 for the second year in a row lost four out of their top seven to graduation. Dikeman has the top retuning time in the league and is one of the favorite and Aziz should also be up in the league. Rest of the team is young and untested. Team will depend on their freshmen and how close their number five runner can be to them.

Schenectady Patriots

Last year's record: 4-4, Sectional finish: 12th - Class AA

Projected Starters: Ben Acevedo-Jr., Chris McCrum-Sr., John Fitzmaurice-So., Brandon Burke-So., Marc Ramnarine-Sr.

Outlook: Lost their top three runner from last year. One to graduation and two didn't come out for the team. Very young team that's has the ability to be a very good team but are probably a year away. Acevedo was in the 19 minute range but everyone else was over 20 minutes last year and they will need to improve.

Troy Flying Horses

Last year's record: 2-6, Sectional finish: incomplete - Class AA (Class A this year)

Projected Starters: Steve Ellis-Jr., Ryan Cassidy-Sr., Brian Collins-Sr., Joe Mooney, Chris Cootes

Outlook:  Lost their top runner to graduation but return everyone else. Ellis, Cassidy, and Collins were all in the 19 minute range but the fourth and fifth were over 25 minutes. Will need to fill those positions this year if they want to move up in the league standings.

Big 10 Girls

Last Year's Team Champion: Amsterdam

Last Year's Individual Champion: Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam)

Team Predictions

W-L

 Individual Predictions

1 Amsterdam 5-0 1 Evelyn Marrero Amsterdam
2 Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons 4-1 2 Krissy Welch Amsterdam
3 Albany High 3-2 3 Mairin O'Connor Bishop Gibbons
4 Catholic Central 2-3 4 Michela Catena Amsterdam
5 Troy 1-4 5 Vickie Jablonski Amsterdam
6 Schenectady 0-5 6 Abby Brigham Troy
      7 Kelly Cole Catholic Central
8 Anna Sise Bishop Gibbons
9 Fern Beetle-Moorcroft Albany High
10 Fallon France Albany HIgh

Amsterdam has won four league titles in a row and there should be very little reason for them not to win their fifth with four of the top five returning runners in the league. Notre Dame- Bishop Gibbons has been second the last three years and will battle it out with Albany High for second place with Catholic Central not too far behind. Individually, Evelyn Marrero is the defending champion and should repeat with her team mate Krissy Welch and Mairin O'Connor from Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons challenging her for the title.

Albany High Falcons

Last year's record: 4-2, Sectional finish: 10th Place - Class AA

Projected Starters: Fern Beetle-Moorcroft-Fr., Fallon France-Jr., Jillian Tomlinson-Jr., Abby Kellum-Jr., Emily Manjak-Jr., Molly Manjak-Fr., Theresa Allinger-Sr.

Outlook: Only lost one runner from last year's team. Bring back and young but experienced team. Beetle-Moorcroft, France, and Kellum were both in the 22 minute range last year. If they can get their fourth and fifth runners to drop their times then they will have a very good shot at getting second in the league.

Amsterdam Rams

Last Year's record: 6-0, Sectional finish: 4th Place - Class A

Projected Starters:  Evelyn Marrero-Jr., Krissy Welch-Sr., Michella Catena-Jr., Vickie Jablonski-Sr., Michela Ottati-Fr., Morganne Ottati-8th, Cece Karutis-So.

Outlook: Only lost one runner to graduation and return everyone else. Marrero and Welch are the only two runners to break 20 minutes in the league with Catena in the the 20 minute range. Big favorite with three of the top runners and with the best depth by far. Will need their fourth and fifth runner to improve if they want to move up in Class A's though.

Bishop Maginn Golden Griffins

Last year's record: 0-6, Sectional finish: incomplete - Class B

Projected Starters: none

Outlook:  No team this year. Hopefully they will get a coach for next year.

Catholic Central Crusaders

Last year's record: 3-3, Sectional finish: 9th - Class B

Projected Starters: Kelly Cole-So., Kelly Murray-Sr., Taylor Moscatiello-So., Devan Kane-So., Shannon Driscoll-Sr.

Outlook: Return four out of their top six from last year. Cole and Murray were both in the 22 minute range and Cole should be one of the top returning runners in the league. Moscatiello was in the 23 minute range but they'll need their fourth and fifth runners to drop their times if they want to move up in the league.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights

 Last year's record: 5-1, Sectional finish: 6th Place - Class B

Projected Starters: Mairin O'Connor-Jr., Anna Sise-Jr., Lauren Maxwell-Sr., Ali Chico-Jr., Julia Milton-So., Liz Johnson-Jr., Nikki Galofaro-Jr.

Outlook:  Lost three out of their top seven to graduation bur return a solid group. O'Connor was just over 20 minutes last year and is one of the top runners in the league. Sise was just over 22 minutes and their third through fifth runner was in the low 23's. Will need their third through fifth to improve if they want to hang on for second in the league and if they want to improve in Class B's.

Schenectady Patriots

Last year's record: 2-4, Sectional finish: 12th Place - Class AA

Projected Starters: Nora Mishanec-So., Emily Carbone-Jr., Angela Kelly-Sr., Jen Nechamen-So., Emily McQuade-So., Jenny Chen-Jr.

Outlook: Lost three out of their top seven to graduation. Mishanec and Carbone are their top two and both were in the 23 minute range last year. Rest of the team was over 27 minute and will have to improve if they want to move up in the league this year.

Troy Flying Horses

Last year's record: 1-5, Sectional finish: 11th place - Class AA (Class A this year)

Projected Starters: Abby Brigham-Jr., Zoe Krumnocker-So., Gina Angrisano-Jr., Alicia Wishecoby-Sr., Michela Tompkins, Erin Aldrich

Outlook: Lost two out of their top five to graduation. Brigham and Krumnocker are a good top two with Brigham just over 22 minutes and Krumnocker just over 23 minutes. Rest of the returning team were all over 26 minutes and will have to improve if they want to move up.
